Patricia Kilday is the mother of three children, the grandmother of six , and the great grand mother of ten. She is 91 years old and has lived in Yucaipa for 62 years. Her painting career started with tole painting in about 1985. Her father-in-law, Ben Hallberg was an artist and an art teacher for Yucaipa Adult School and he started her painting in oil. She recounts, "I had always wanted to paint but didn't think I had the talent. I asked my father-in-law if he thought he could teach me to paint. He asked me if I wanted to paint, and I replied, 'I do.' Then you will be able to paint," was his quick response and for the last 28 years I have been painting.
I have been taking oil painting and watercolor lessons from Sharon Rachal at Rachal's Art Center. Sharon has taught me so much in the last twenty years--I respect and admire her greatly. Her classes have become so important to me not only for the painting, but for the wonderful people I meet. Together we create and paint. It really has become my passion.
